Background

Dr. Shaffer is an assistant professor with 24 years of clinical experience. She has worked as a substance abuse counselor, clinical director of a residential children’s facility, counselor in a university counseling center, director of a university family counseling clinic, and supervisor for a clinical mental health team working with clients with psychotic disorders. She has been with Walden University since 2010 and is also a mental health consultant with Job Corps. She volunteers as a certified disaster mental health counselor with the American Red Cross and has worked with Hurricane Katrina and Tropical Storm Allison victims. Personal interests include singing and pursuing her small aircraft pilot’s license.
