Nearly every organization relies on some form of information technology to perform critical business functions. There are many opportunities for motivated individuals interested in a career in information technology.

Walden’s BS in Information Technology program can help you build the skills you need to contribute meaningfully to this exciting and fast-changing field. Specifically, within a few years of graduation, and with continued learning and attained experience, graduates of the BS in Information Technology should be able to work in a variety of careers:

  • Application development/quality assurance professionals analyze, design, and build applications to suit a business’ needs and systematically ensure applications perform reliably to specified requirements.
  • Customer support/help desk professionals provide technical assistance, support, and advice to customers and other users. They interpret problems and provide technical support for hardware, software, and systems.
  • Database administration/data center operations professionals are responsible for storing, organizing, and managing data. They identify user needs, set up and maintain computer databases and data centers, and test systems to ensure they perform as they should. They are responsible for data integrity, backup, and security.
  • Networking/network operations/systems administration professionals design, install, and support an organization’s computer systems. They are responsible for local-area networks (LAN), wide-area networks (WAN), network segments, and Internet and intranet systems.
  • Network security professionals plan, coordinate, and implement an organization’s information security. They educate users about computer security, install security software, monitor networks for security breaches, respond to cyber attacks, and gather forensic evidence of cyber crime.

Career options may require additional experience, training, or other factors beyond the successful completion of this degree program.

My coursework has recently helped me get a new job as chief information officer at a school district in Indiana.
I was surprised by how well organized the program is. The lectures and discussions are all timed out. If you’re hardworking and follow the program, you can graduate at the expected time.
I decided to re-enroll with Walden for my master’s degree because after earning my first degree I saw a lot of positive changes in myself.
