Dr. Burt is a contributing faculty member who teaches in the area of Social Work. Within her role at Walden University, she assists in creating and maintaining a learning environment where academic disciplines interconnect with the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work. Dr. Burt has worked as an adjunct online faculty member at the University of Phoenix Online and taught two classes within the health sciences areas for 3 years. She has formally and informally mentored, educated and reeducated social work and Bridgeport Hospital/Yale New Haven Health System's staff in the areas of social work and human services for the past 5 years. Dr. Burt has also collaborated with the State of Connecticut’s protective services agencies (children, adult, elderly and disabled adults) with the role and responsibilities of Bridgeport Hospital/Yale New Haven Health System's social work staff for the past 5 years as well.
Dr. Burt worked for 15 years for the State of Connecticut in the areas of child protective services (treatment social worker, covering 16 towns), elderly protective services (investigative social worker/treatment social worker, covering 11 towns), the State Department of Education (program manager covering three school districts) and is a Connecticut Licensed Masters Level Social Worker (LMSW). Additionally, Dr. Burt worked for Bridgeport Hospital/Yale New Haven Health System as the Supervisor of Social Work and Care Coordination from 2017-2018, covering all the Inpatient MedSurg Units, Primary Care Clinics, Emergency Department, Maternal Child Health Units, Burn Unit and ICU social workers. As of January 2019, Dr. Burt was promoted to Manager of Social Work Services, covering all the same areas.
Dr. Burt has also led the charge in developing a Social Work Signature of Care for the Yale New Haven Health System (6 hospitals) and the implementation of Uber Health Transportation Service at Bridgeport Hospital’s inpatient units and the emergency department. She has also restructured the work flows and throughput processes and procedures for the social work team in the areas of: MedSurg, Burn Unit, ICUs, Emergency Department, Primary Care Clinics and Maternal Child Health Units from 2017-2018.
