Vickie Moore is a family nurse practitioner, practicing in women's health for the past 23 years. She has been teaching online for the past 10 years, the past 3 years in the NP program at Walden University. She has taught at the RN to BSN level and the graduate level. At Walden University Dr. Moore teaches the NURS 6512 Physical Assessment class.
Prior to becoming an FNP, Dr. Moore was a perioperative nurse and educator. She originally graduated from a diploma nursing program and returned after 13 years to obtain her BSN and MSN in adult health. 2 weeks after obtaining her masters she was enrolled in a family nurse practitioner certificate program at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA - one of the first distance programs in the 90s. She finished her DNP in May 2013 from an online program at Radford University in Virginia.
Vickie lives with her husband, Phillip of 43 years, in beautiful central Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains. Vickie and her husband have a grown son and grown daughter. Her children are both married and have given Vickie and her husband 3 wonderful grandchildren, They have a 15-year-old granddaughter, a 9-year-old grandson, and an 18-month old grandson. Their family loves to travel together and most recently spent a week at Disney World.
Vickie and her husband also love all types of college and professional sports. Their favorite college basketball team, the Virginia Cavaliers, won the NCAA championship this spring. What an exciting time for them!
Besides being a wife, grandmother, teacher and FNP Vickie's passion for the past 18 years has been a medical mission to Jamaica. Her DNP capstone project was an integrative review of "Best Practices in Short-Term Health Care Missions."
Vickie is interested in research in women's health, medical missions, and helping DNP students with their scholarly projects.
