Professor Powell has an extensive background in digital media production, with 30 years of experience and four Emmy awards for broadcast television productions. Also, he has designed and taught many fully online courses, as well as hybrid courses, in multimedia production and theory. Here are a few highlights: When the UCLA Writer’s Program began looking at teaching courses online, Professor Powell designed and taught the first fully online course in this program (documentary filmmaking). Professor Powell's Ph.D. is in Instructional Design for Online Learning, and he has taught over 70 online sections in Walden University’s School of Education. He has been lead instructor for many of those courses. Primarily, the courses have dealt with the use of technology in education, as well as multimedia design and production. As a Senior Contributing Faculty member at Walden, Professor Powell has assisted with the design and redesign of courses in the Riley College of Education. He has been with Walden since 2004.
