Tamara Temoney

Dr. Temoney-Porter received a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a MSW from the University of Georgia with a specialization in macro practice and a Ph.D in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.Her dissertation research analyzed the relationship between the media coverage of child abuse and introduced legislation in the Virginia General Assembly.

She has worked in the human services field for the past twenty-three years in various areas including foster care, welfare reform,foster parent recruitment and retention, staff development and training,and policy development and analysis. During her tenure with state government, she led efforts for the statewide implementation of family engagement practices that were based on the premise that all families have strengths and have the capacity to change when supported. She is currently an administrator in a local government human services agency and her research interests include child welfare and family engagement.

Dr. Temoney-Porter has lived in Hampton for almost two years, but considers North Carolina her true home.
