College of Nursing
Dr. Sharon Catledge is a certified family nurse practitioner at The University of Southern Mississippi. Thirty years of nursing have allowed her to work in many different areas from the bedside to the classroom to advanced practice. Dr. Catledge began her teaching career in the Associates Degree Nursing Program at Itawamba Community College in 2002. She has worked as adjunct faculty in the Masters of Science program at The University of Southern Mississippi. She is excited to be a part of the MSN Core team at Walden University.
Dr. Catledge graduated with an Associates Degree in Nursing from Itawamba Junior College in Fulton, Mississippi, in 1989. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1997 at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. In 2008, Dr. Catledge received a Masters of Science in Nursing Education from the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama, and a Post Masters from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi with a concentration in the family nurse practitioner track in 2010. She earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from The University of Southern Mississippi in 2014. Dr. Catledge is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society.
Her capstone research for the Master's degree was on health disparities in African Americans. Her doctoral capstone research project was on the Human Papilloma Virus.
Dr. Catledge was appointed by two different Governors to serve on the Mississippi State Board of Nursing; hence, serving on the Board for eight years. During the eight years, she held each position in the executive cabin; presiding as the president for three consecutive years. Dr. Catledge is a member of the Mississippi Nurse Association, Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners, Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses Association, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Catledge was nominated as Nurse Distinction of the Year by her peers. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Dr. Catledge is passionate about giving back; hence, she participates in community service in various ways. At The University of Southern Mississippi, she serves as an academic advisor, club advisor, and engages in a mentoring program for undergraduates. Dr. Catledge was asked and graciously accepted to serve on the Headstart board in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Believing that knowledge is power, she volunteers to help with health fairs and to provide health seminars on numerous topics.
Dr. Catledge is from Tupelo Mississippi and currently resides in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is a proud mother of two daughters and one son. Also, she has a beautiful canine daughter, Princess Bella, who is a Caviler King Charles. She enjoys adventure, traveling, exercising, cooking, and most importantly spending time with her family.
