Scott Mertes is currently the Vice President of Community Outreach and Advancement at Mid Michigan College. Prior to that, Dr. Mertes held administrative positions at Central Michigan University and The University of Iowa. Overall, he has worked in higher education for over 20 years and has overseen a wide variety of operational areas including registration, admissions, experiential education, institutional research, student discipline, library learning services, retention, Liberal Arts, Community Outreach, and Advancement. Dr. Mertes received his BA in Psychology from Winona State University (MN), his MA in Counselor Education from The University of Iowa, and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Mertes serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Central Michigan University, where he teaches Research Methods classes. Dr. Mertes also serves as a Contributing Faculty Member at Walden University and a Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission. He has numerous refereed journal articles and conference presentations to his credit, mostly focusing on higher education issues including student retention.
