Ph.D. Education

Dr. Jenkins began her professional career as a teacher's assistant in a pilot program in Durham, NC for students with behavior/emotional disabilities. She received her MAED in Special Education from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and taught in various public schools in grades preschool through 12th. She received her Ph.D. in Child Development from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. For several years, she was part of a multidisciplinary evaluation team at a regional center in N.C., then began a second career with the Department of Defense Education Activity, where she taught dependents of US military members in Japan, Germany, and N.C. and was promoted to the position of Coordinator for Early Childhood and Special Education for the DoD schools in Guam. She retired from federal service in 2006, and has been teaching for several universities in online and face-to-face venues. She is involved with the local USO and leads a group of teachers who are new to the base schools.
