College of Health Sciences
Hello and welcome,
I am excited that you are here! My name is Dr. Roneisa Matero. I have had a very rewarding and satisfying career thus far. I started my journey into medicine in 1990 when I graduated high school and joined the United States Air Force as a flight medic. I spent five years in the Air Force and loved traveling and serving my country. We were stationed at Little Rock AFB just outside of Little Rock Arkansas. In 1994 I became pregnant with my first child and I decided that I would get out of the service and further my career in medicine as a registered nurse.
I started the BSN program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock Arkansas in June 1995. I graduated from nursing school in May 1997, and had my second child a month later. We were then transferred to Pope AFB in North Carolina where after working as an RN for 1 year I decided to further my education again as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
I started the Family Nurse Practitioner-Master's program at Duke University in August of 1998. I graduated in May 2000 and began my career as a Nurse Practitioner. I have worked in family practice, geriatrics, urgent care, occupational medicine and emergency medicine during my career. Most of my time has been spent in the emergency department.
I recently graduated in May 2016 with my Doctor of Nursing Practice from Maryville University.
