Dr. Porter has worked in a variety of fields before finding her niche in education. After her first BA, she worked in journalism, briefly for the Council Bluffs, IA Nonpareil, then for Mutual of Omaha in sales and corporate communications, and as an Information and Education Specialist for the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resource District. After receiving her masters degree, she worked as a publication director and editor for the Soil and Water Conservation Society and as a technical editor and writer for Environmental Health and Engineering, Inc. She spent 9 years working for Reed Elsevier in their business communication field creating and building websites for Design News Magazine. Finally after moving to Florida in 2004, she began teaching in college in both the physical classroom, online, and hybrid courses. She has taught at Walden since 2010, where she teaches in the education and instructional design technology fields. In 2023, she was appointed to serve on the Lee County, FL School Board Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee as well as serve as a reviewer of challenged books to be banned in the school.
