Dr. Spadaro has spent the bulk of her 38 year career as a counselor educator and a clinician. She is dedicated to teaching counseling skills to Walden University students both online and at academic residencies as a core faculty and the school of counseling skills development coordinator. At academic residencies it is not unusual to see her carrying around a small child’s chair and a number of other colorful props that she uses in teaching counseling. This is because she incorporates Impact Therapy in both her counseling and her teaching. Impact Therapy is a creative multisensory approach to counseling developed by Dr. Ed Jacobs. Dr. Spadaro has used creative counseling techniques with adults in various settings including at a federal prison, at a Veterans Outreach Center, in community counseling, in over thirty years of presenting counselor training, and part-time private practice with individuals, couples and families. She integrates yoga and martial arts in her healing retreat center for clinicians in Bellingham, Washington.
