Dr Nicolas Abella currently serves as a Contributing Faculty for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) - Leadership and Management at Walden University. Dr. Abella began as a part-time faculty member at Walden University in July of 2017. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice. He holds a specialty certification in Critical Care Nursing. He has developed an integration framework for clinical practice called the 5 Ps. He uses this framework to improve outcomes, and avoid costly mistakes, wasted time, and wasted resources. His framework examines the interactions between the five factors that determine the integration of evidence into clinical practice. Dr. Abella is a Corporate Director of Critical Care and Medical-Surgical Services in one of the biggest for-profit healthcare system in the U.S. He provides clinical and leadership consultancy and training to the entire system of 137 hospitals. He has practiced in a variety of clinical settings including Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, CVICU, Cath Lab, Neuro Interventional Radiology, Dialysis, GI Lab, Pulmonary Lab, Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical Units. Dr. Abella is currently an active member of many professional organizations including the American College of Healthcare Executives, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, American Nurses Association, and Tennessee Nurses Association.
