Monique Holsey-Hyman earned a Doctor of Education in Administration and Leadership from Walden University in the Richard W. Riley College of Education in 2015. Master of Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work in 1992 and Bachelor of Science degree from the State University at Binghamton in 1996. In 1994 she became a Certified Social Worker (CSW) in New York State. In 2005, she was licensed as a Certified Social Worker with Psychotherapy Privilege (LCSW-R).
She has over Thirty -two years of comprehensive and progressive health, social service management, clinical and academic experience. Her career began in 1986 as a caseworker for the City of New York, Human Resources Administration, and Child Welfare Administration. In 1994, she embarked on a new career in the not-for-profit arena at Steinway Child and Family Services, Inc. in Queens, New York. She served as Program Director and was responsible for the implementation of the Intensive Care Management Program. Promoted to the Bronx Director of Case Management in 1996 and 2002, she became the Center Director for Community Healthcare Network, Health Center in Queens, New York. She joined the faculty at Berkeley College in their Liberal Arts Department as an adjunct professor, teaching and developing introductory and upper-level sociology courses in 2005. She has also served as a consultant for Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center, Brooklyn Hospital, and NYC Housing Authority in New York City.
She joined the faculty of Shaw University in 2006 and was a part of the initial accreditation faculty team and the 2013 reaffirmation team for the Social Work Program. In August of 2009, she became the Curriculum Quality Coordinator for the Department of Social Work and served as the Acting Chair of the Department of Social Work in 2014. In 2013 she became a Certified Site Auditor for the (CSWE) Council on Social Work Education.
In 2015 Dr. Holsey- Hyman was appointed as the Director of Shaw University Center for Alternative Programs in Education Center. In 2014 she was named the Special Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for Retention and Recruitment.
Dr. Holsey-Hyman received the honor from Spectacular Magazine 2017 Women of Year-Education for her career achievements in the "Education" category. Spectacular Magazine pays tribute to a phenomenal cast of Triangle area women who were awarded the publication's 2017 Woman of the Year honors. Dr. Monique Holsey- Hyman has over fourteen years of academic experience. She joined Walden University in January 2017 as a Contributing Faculty member in the BSW program. However, she has also taught courses in the MSW program.
