Dr. Cappello’s formal training is in environmental and public health epidemiology where he has served in various roles over his 15+ year career. Currently, Dr. Cappello serves as the Director of Disease Control and Environmental Epidemiology for the State of Colorado, providing oversight for Communicable Disease, Immunizations, Environmental epidemiology, Integrated Disease Reporting, and HIV/STI/Viral Hepatitis programs. Prior to working at the State of Colorado, Dr. Cappello was the Executive Director of the Northeast Colorado Health department. In 2014, Dr. Cappello was appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Health and served as board president from 2015 to 2017. Dr. Cappello’s current research interests focus on environmental epidemiology, as well as public health administration. He has presented at numerous conferences including the American Public Health Association as a featured research session.
