Mattie Burton completed her PhD in nursing at the University of Cincinnati in 2004. Graduate work at UC and at the University of Kentucky (MSN, 1990) focused on community health and administration and research efforts have included psychometrics and community based participatory research methodology. Dr. Burton has held RN license in Kentucky (compact state) since 1973 and most recently served as Director of Health in a non-profit organization in central Appalachia. Her work history includes various levels of nursing administration in acute care as well as in academic settings. After teaching in distance-learning modalities, satellite to web-based, for 20 years, Dr. Burton joined Walden in 2015 facilitating coursework and dissertation/thesis completion in the Doctorate of Nursing Practice program, and later in the PhD in nursing program. She has taught courses at multiple levels of nursing education in theory, research, community health, nursing administration, and systems leadership.
