Mark Starik is a sustainability management consultant, coach, and writer in the start-up, Always Be Sustaining, Inc., in Madison, Wisconsin, his former hometown. He is a Contributing Faculty member in the Walden University College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration program and is currently serving on 9 doctoral dissertation committees. Prior to re-locating, he was a Professor of Management and the Director of the M.S. in Sustainability Management at American University, in Washington, D.C. He was previously a Professor of Supply Chain and Operations Management in the University of Technology, Sydney Management Discipline Group in Sydney, Australia, and served as a Professor of Management and Sustainability and the Director of the Center for Ethical and Sustainable Business in the College of Business at San Francisco State University (U.S.A). There, he researched and taught in the areas of strategic management, business environmental management and policy, and business energy and climate issues and solutions. His career experience includes more than 20 years at George Washington University (U.S.A.) in which he co-founded and co-directed two sustainability-related centers and chaired the Department of Strategic Management and Public Policy. He has also held several positions in and consulted with various business, government, and non-profit organizations, primarily in the energy and environment areas, and is a co-founder of several sustainability non-profit organizations, including the Academy of Management’s Organizations & the Natural Environment (ONE) Interest Group (now a Division). His research interests include multi-level and multi-systems sustainability, hybrid organizations, strategic sustainability management, sustainable energy and climate solutions, and sustainability management theory. He was a Co-Editor of the journal _Organization & Environment_ for 2 three-year terms and holds a Ph.D. in Strategic Management (major) and Operations and Information Systems Management (minors) from the University of Georgia (U.S.A.), and an M.A. in Natural Resources Policy and Administration and a B.A. in Economics, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (U.S.A.). His hobbies include running, reading and writing both fiction and non-fiction, watching baseball, exploring nature, and appreciating jazz and blues music.
