Dr. Tinney has taught at several universities and in public and private schools for 23 years in both English and Spanish, on all levels as a professional educator for K-12, college, government, and adult ed institutions, with five of those years teaching in Mexico and 13 years in the USA. As full-time faculty she worked as Student Mentor and Department Chair for online MA students at Western Governors University's English Language Learning program... especially for more than 40 master's students who defended their capstones and graduated. She taught several courses at Brigham Young University (BYU), including multicultural education to secondary ed pre-service teachers. On the university level, she also taught at Benemérito in Mexico City, Western Governors University, and now at Walden University as a professor and committee Chair and committee member of doctoral candidates. Holding a BYU BA in English and Spanish with a Secondary teaching certificate, she lived and taught in Mexico for six years.
Her Ph.D in Instructional Technology from Utah State University (in 2007) and MA in TESL Materials Development and Instructional Science from BYU (in 1979) opened the way for her teaching undergraduates and graduate students of many linguistic backgrounds along with extensive instructional design experience (15 years) in higher education courses and for industry courseware. With more than 11 years' experience in online/distance education, she also worked over the decades as an instructional designer, technical writer, and corporate trainer for corporations. Dr. Tinney designed 13 distance courses specifically for university-level or adult learners. She has researched, designed, developed, delivered, or evaluated 19 language-related courses on all levels of language proficiency for English and Spanish-speaking audiences.
Born and raised in Montana, she is a prairie girl at heart with an ongoing hankering to travel and know the peoples and cultures of the world. She has enjoyed living in Montana, Mexico, Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, and Utah. She has traveled in Europe, Canada, and Central America.
