Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Halawi was the operations manager of Avis (her franchise car rental agency) in Brandon, Florida for five years. She co-authored these books: Harnessing the Power of Analytics and Applying Predictive Analytics Finding Value in Data Published by Springer, 2022 & 2019. She did author several journal articles and contributed to the old edition of the textbook Decision Support and Business Intelligence Systems.

She is an advisory board member and a reviewer for the Enterprise Architecture Body of Knowledge (EABOK), Mitre Corporation. She is a Reviewer for the Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS) and the International Association for computer information systems (IACIS). She is also a program committee member and reviewer for the European Conference on Social Media, (ECSM), the European Conference on Knowledge Management (ECKM) and the International Conference on Intellectual Capital and Knowledge Management (ICIKM), the Federated Conference on computer science and information systems (FEDCSIS). She is also part of the IT editorial board of the multimedia educational resource for learning and online teaching (MERLOT).

She is frequently invited to present her research at national and international conferences. Her current research interests include Knowledge Management, business intelligence, information systems success and strategy, and ethical impacts of information technology (IT).

She received the SAS 2020 Emerging Educator Award Recipient. She has over 15 years of teaching, research, and curriculum development experience.

Dr. Halawi pursues opportunities to affect social change in her life, particularly through bonding with people and families who have similar experiences when it comes to congenital heart defects and dementia patients. The presence of a severe congenital heart defect, in addition to dementia often results in an enormous emotional and financial strain on families. Patient/family education is integral to successful coping, so She participates in many support groups in the Tampa Bay area and attends courses to help cope and spread awareness.
