Kim Downing

Dr. Downing earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from Norfolk State University in 2007. She received a Graduate Certificate in Leadership Development from The George Washington University in 2009. In November 2012, she graduated from the prestigious Bridges Academic Leadership Program for women in higher education in the UNC System. Dr. Downing’s area of interest is Women’s Issues with emphasis on African American Women and Poverty. She has 30 years of experience as a social worker and has been licensed in Virginia as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since 2000. In 1988, she received a National Certification from the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW). Dr. Downing has served on community and state boards in Virginia and has presented at national and local conferences. As well, she volunteers for the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in several capacities i.e. a Site Visitor to review BSW Programs; Co-Chair of the Clinical Track for proposals at the Annual Program Meeting (APM); the Licensing and Regulation National Taskforce (publication available on the CSWE website); and a member of the Council on the Role and Status of Women in Social Work Education for three years.
