Dr. Kathy Dardeck is a licensed psychologist health service provider in Massachusetts. She did her doctoral work in counseling psychology at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. She maintained a full time clinical practice as a psychologist for 17 years in a medical center in Western Massachusetts (pediatrics to geriatrics) before moving near the ocean to have greater access to seakayaking, which has been a passion for the past 2+ decades.
Before joining Walden, Dr. Dardeck held teaching & administrative positions at several community & private colleges & universities in Massachusetts, including being Assistant Dean of Students at Amherst College. She served as a disaster & crisis consultant to universities, colleges & businesses for 20+ years. For several decades she lectured on various aspects of psychology (particularly disaster mental health, trauma & traumatic stress specific to emergency medical services personnel) & has given many workshops & trainings in disaster mental health response, as well as creating & directing 5 major, successful disaster mental health conferences in Boston.
Dr. Dardeck has been a Walden faculty member since 2005. Currently she is a full time, core faculty (Clinical Psychology) at Walden specializing in teaching Ethics, & Consultation & Supervision (she developed both courses). She also created Walden’s Psychology of Terrorism course & briefly served as a consultant on the Disaster course. Dr. Dardeck also teaches practicum & internship courses, & serves in the roles of chairing dissertations & being a subject matter expert/2d dissertation committee member.
Dr. Dardeck is a lifetime member of the American Psychological Association having passed the 30 year mark, & is a fellow & lifetime member of the Massachusetts Psychological Association. She previously served a three year term on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Psychological Association. She was the Massachusetts Co-Chairperson of the Disaster Response Network (DRN) for 12 years & the Chairperson of the DRN from 2008- 2013, when she retired from this post. She served appointed terms on the Massachusetts Governor's committee for disaster mental health services, & on the American Psychological Association's (APA) national advisory committee to the Disaster Response Network. She formerly served as the clinical director of the Western Massachusetts Emergency Medical Services Critical Incident Stress Management Team. Deployed to Ground Zero in N.Y.C. subsequent to the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks, she led a support team who provided disaster response services to firefighters working on the rubble. She received a Presidential Citation from the American Psychological Association for that work. In 2013 Dr. Dardeck was awarded the Ezra Saul Psychological Service Award for outstanding contributions to the enhancement & acceptance of psychological services & programs in Massachusetts.
Subsequent to the Boston Marathon bombings, Dr. Dardeck worked with medical personnel at the request of the administrations of two of the impacted Boston hospitals.
