Judy Cornelius
Dr. Judith Cornelius is a graduate of Hampton Institute (1977, BS), Hampton University (1985, MS) and Rush University Medical Center (2000, PhD). She is licensed as a professional nurse for 40 and her teaching experience spans 33 years. Her formal teaching experiences include Adult Health Nursing and her field of research involves the use of technology in HIV prevention efforts with minority adolescents and at-risk women.
She began teaching for Walden University in 2010. In her role as a contributing faculty member she has taught various courses and have chaired several DNP committees. She has also served as a URR for various doctoral projects.
Dr. Cornelius has been funded to conduct research in the areas of HIV prevention. Her funding sources include the National Institutes of Health, Project Mosaic, Chancellor Diversity Award, Director’s Award, Faculty Enhancement Research Grant, and sub contracts to complete HIV prevention research from the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies.
In addition to her position at Walden, she has served as Project Mosaic Program Affiliate Faculty, Participating Faculty in the Health Services Research PhD program, Professor, Visiting Professor, Associate Professor, Instructor, Charge Nurse, Quality Improvement Nurse and Registered Nurse. She is licensed to practice as an RN with multi-state privileges in North Carolina. She has held past certifications as a CNS in Adult Nursing and Medical Surgical Nursing.
Dr. Cornelius has memberships in Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, and the National League for Nursing. She has received the Chi Eta Phi Glowing Lamp Award, Department of Nursing Merit Award for Research, Ellis Jones Minority Research Award, and Society of Nursing Professionals, Who’s Who in American Nursing Award. She is a fellow in the National League for Nursing Academy (ANEF) and the American Association of Nursing (FAAN).
She has participated in two doctoral research fellowships, one from the American Nurses Association, Ethnic Minority Training Program and the other from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cornelius has participated in the American Psychological Association Cyber Mentoring Fellowship Program.
Dr. Cornelius' research endeavors have been recognized in an ABC News press release, on televisions programs and in over numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters. She has presented her research locally, nationally and internationally. Dr. Cornelius provides professional services to nursing organizations as a manuscript, grant, and abstract reviewer. She has served as a judge at Graduate Research symposiums and as a moderator for panel discussions at community and nursing research conferences. She is currently serving in a leadership capacity on expert health panels, RAO Community Health board of directors and as a Sigma Regional Coordinator.
