Dr. Schmidt joined Walden University as a Contributing Faculty Member in 1997, and became full-time Core Faculty in 2016 to support the MS and PhD Programs in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. He completed his graduate training at the University of Houston with a focus in human factors and industrial psychology. Dr. Schmidt is a licensed as a psychologist, board certified in human factors, and board certified as a executive coach. His interests as a practitioner-scholar are tied to all aspects of applied psychology to include selection, training, system design, safety, risk management, and leadership development. He chaired over 40 dissertations at Walden, sat on over 65 committees, and sees dissertation work as the cornerstone of being a faculty member. After completing a successful military career as an applied psychologist, Dr. Schmidt sees his primary role to train the next generation of scholar-practitioners in the field. In the graduate courses he instructs, he emphasizes the need to make a connection with the practical application of what is being covered. On a personal note he is developing skills as an executive coach as well as acquiring more knowledge in organizational development to leverage his leadership and management experience to help individuals, teams, and organizations reach their potential.
