Joan Hahn
Dr. Joan Earle Hahn earned master's and doctoral degrees in nursing at Rush University and baccalaureate degrees in psychology and nursing at the University of Rochester. Dr. Hahn is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an advanced practice gerontological nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist. She holds certification in the specialty of developmental disability nursing by the Developmental Nurses Association and is an inaugural faculty fellow of the 2022 Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing Fellowship. Her program of research is renowned for the development of a health risk assessment tool using a comprehensive geriatric assessment approach for promoting health and well-being among people with disability. Dr. Hahn is a long-time proponent of addressing the gap in nursing and other health professions education to promote health and well-being among people with disabilities. She is a founding board member of the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association and the Alliance for Disability in Health Care Education participating in the core competencies development for health educators that are receiving national attention from educators and advocates to reduce health disparities experienced by people with disabilities. Joining Walden University in 2018, currently, Dr. Hahn serves as an academic program coordinator in the College of Nursing teaching in mentoring courses, supporting students and faculty in doctoral capstone projects, and contributing to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) curriculum development. Her passion is facilitating students' scholarship in their design and implementation of their capstone projects working with program leadership and faculty to maximize students' success.
