Jason Lum’s academic and professional expertise ranges from civil rights, business law, public policy, and the interrelationship between business and government to advocacy for college access and college education funding.

Since 2001, Lum has served as a faculty member at Walden University, acting as leader for human resources, public policy, homeland security, and business courses. In addition, he played a key role in the development of the online Master of Public Administration (MPA) and PhD in Public Policy and Administration programs. Lum served as director of the MPA program from 2006 to 2007 and as assistant dean of the School of Public Policy and Administration from 2007 to 2008. Earlier in his career, Lum was a civil rights attorney in the Office of the Monitor in St. Paul, Minn., for Pigford v. Veneman, the case with the largest civil rights settlement in U.S. history, regarding race discrimination in USDA farm loan programs. He also previously served as a legislative assistant to former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie and a law clerk at the U.S. Department of Justice. Lum is the recipient of the Harry S Truman Scholarship, the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, and was a national finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship. He worked in the Harvard Admissions Office and at the Washington University in St. Louis Career Center. Lum is the founder of Scholar Edge LLC, which helps parents and students apply for college and compete for scholarships.
