A resident of Indiana all of her life, Dr. Houchins lives with her husband, two daughters, and a brood of fur children.
Dr. Houchins holds a PhD in Education with a Nursing Education specialty from Capella University (2016); a MSN & BSN from the University of Southern Indiana (2007 & 2005); a BS in Health Services, University of Southern Indiana (1999), and an ASN from Vincennes University (1996).
As a nurse for over 22 years, Dr. Houchins has practiced in a variety of practice settings to include: medical surgical nursing, long term acute care,surgery, labor and delivery, and now nursing education the past 10 years full time (as faculty, Dean of Nursing, and now Director of Quality Improvement for Nursing). This is in addition to her role as MSN Contributing Faculty at Walden University.
As an experienced educator, Dr. Houchins has taught a variety of students at all levels of education and entry to practice. Her experience at Walden University includes teaching courses on evidence-based practice, as well as policy and advocacy in health care.
Her research interests include intergenerational mentoring, evidence-based practice use in education and nursing, entry to practice for new nurses, and lots of adult education topics.
