College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
I earned my PhD is Public Administration from the ASU School of Public Affairs in 2005. My areas of interest and research are Administrative Theory, Organizational Behavior, Public Policy, Program Evaluation, Leadership, and Women and Politics.
I earned my MSW in Social Work (Community Planning and Administration) from the ASU School of Social Work in 1989. My BA is in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1985. I have been working in the field since 1985 (and sometimes feels like it too!). I have worked for many non-profit and public institutions. I also often teach for NAU in the Master of Administration program, ASU in the School of Public Affairs, and the University of Arizona, Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
I'm also currently the Performance Improvement Manager at the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, where I’ve worked since 2001. I lead evaluation projects, grant writing, program research, performance management, and strategic planning, as well as participate on management teams and leadership training. As a practitioner as well as an academic, I am uniquely familiar with administration and management. It is my goal to guide your learning from academic sources combined with your personal experience (as well as mine) to better prepare you for the complex and often-chaotic role of manager and leader. When I'm not working and teaching I enjoy hiking, reading (mostly nonfiction), watching the Food Channel, traveling, and finding opportunities for fun and adventure.
