Doris Thompson's work experience in public health includes serving as program coordinator for a cancer screening program in Shreveport, LA. The program was designed for the under-served population of northwest Louisiana and screened for breast, colon, cervical, and prostate cancers. She has also worked in a state-wide tobacco control program based in New Orleans, LA. She served as a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments surveyor in Alaska. In 2011-2012, a training grant was implemented by her. The grant was from the Association of Public Health Laboratories. This funding allowed her to train 52 physician office laboratory testing personnel in the Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks areas. Since coming to Walden University in 2013, she has taught courses in Public and Global Health, Concepts of Health Promotion, Current Issues in Healthcare Policy and Practice, and Behavioral and Cultural Issues in Health Care.
