Dr. McHaney has been in nursing for over 27+ years but prior to that she was a computer systems engineer. She is a doctorally prepared Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Pysch Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She maintains a current practice with a local global adoption organization. Dr. McHaney also holds a Masters in Information Management Security and has over 26 years experience in the computer science industry. Her research interest includes informatics, older adults, and innovation in technology related to teaching.

Dr. McHaney is a contributing faculty with Walden University and teaches courses related to informatics. Dr. McHaney has been fortunate in that she has been able to merge her two favorite careers into a very successful career. Dr. McHaney has worked in many areas related to nursing informatics and continues to do so even though teaching is her primary career. She has worked in related technology areas that include systems engineering, development, installation, and evaluation. She has also worked as a nurse liaison within Information Technology departments as well as many other informatics related work.
