Dr. Ranes is a licensed clinical social worker with 35+ years of experience in a wide variety of treatment methods and practice settings; psychiatric hospitals, outpatient treatment programs, schools, inter-disciplinary private practices. She has been the executive director of both an inpatient setting and a non-profit agency. She has worked with individuals, couples, families and groups utilizing a wide range of practice skills in muti-disciplinary settings.
Dr. Ranes began professional training in the 1980's. She holds an MSW and a PhD in Clinical Social Work (Adults and Adolescents) from New York University, Silver School of Social Work. Her doctoral work was in California on a well-known longitudinal, NIMH study that that addressed post-divorce and stepfamily life. That study generated over 60 publications on post-divorce coping. Her own dissertation was a longitudinal study (5 years) of post-divorce family life.
Dr. Ranes holds a second Masters from Columbia University in Health Education (specialty in Human Sexuality) and maintains a strong dedication to the bio-psychosocial perspective. She taught at Western Connecticut State College, the College of Mt St Vincent and most recently in the graduate school of the University 0f North Carolina, Chape Hill, Graduate School of Social Work. She has also done numerous educational programs for licensed mental health professionals, for NASW and for the Clinical Social Work Association.
She is certified in school social work in addition to her clinical license. She is expert in many treatment techniques including alternative treatments such as clinical hypnosis and meditation methods
Dr. Ranes has worked with many health related areas including sleep and chronic pain. She has taught at the university level in health education as well as in social work. Dr. Ranes has served on the Board of Directors for NASW- Maine and has been on the Board for the Clinical Social Work Association in North Carolina.
