Dr. Deanna Johnson serves as the academic program coordinator for the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program in the College of Nursing at Walden University. She has been with Walden University since 2019. Dr. Johnson has been teaching critical care since 2014 which includes, didactic courses, simulation, and clinical courses. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mercer University in 2009 and her Master of Science in Nursing degree with a focus in acute care in 2014 at the University of Miami. After gaining clinical experience in the hospital setting, Dr. Johnson obtained her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of North Florida in 2019. Dr. Johnson's expertise is in critical care. Her formal clinical training began as an emergency room/trauma-critical care nurse in 2009. She was in this role for four years before going back to graduate school to become a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She has been an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the surgical intensive care unit since 2015 and is currently practicing once a week. Dr. Johnson has served as SME in critical care issues. She also has a background in helping victims of sex-trafficking and has been a guest lecturer at a local university speaking on sex-trafficking.
