It was in Rhode Island that I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in both Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education with a Concentration in Language Arts at Rhode Island College. I received my Doctorate of Education in the area of Child and Youth Studies with an emphasis in Curriculum Instruction from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Throughout my 25 years of my career, I have had many diverse experiences. I was involved in the ground level opening of a Community Center for both Seniors and Children in Providence, Rhode Island. It was an Intergenerational Social Services Center and the entire community became involved in it's success. I also taught in Public and Private schools, Directed a Child Care Center from it's inception, was a Coordinator for a local Social Service Agency in which I was directly involved in assisting first generation women to begin taking college classes in Child Development. For the last 10 years I have been a Professor, and Professional Growth Advisor at the College level in California, and also serve as an Student Advisor who works with college students in outreach projects throughout the city in an effort to help children and families in need. I teach both onground and online courses. I am passionate about what I do and have had a wonderful journey in my career. I am pleased to be part of the teaching staff here at Walden University and look forward to teaching you and helping you achieve your goals.
I hold a Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University in Child Youth Studies. I have been teaching for over thirty years. I live in San Diego California where I teach child development. I enjoy visiting my family in Rhode Island and visiting parts of California.
My major work accomplishments has been at San Diego Miramar College as the Department Chair. I have grown the program over the last 10 years to be a thriving department where students can take classes both in child development and human development . It is here I am most proud of my accomplishments. I have been teaching for over 30 years and my areas of research is in higher education and what constitutes a positive environment. I am active with ASCD and NAEYC which are child development affiliations.
