Cheryl Ann Thaxton, DNP, RN, CPNP, FNP-BC, CHPPN, ACHPN, FPCN has enjoyed over 27 years of experience in nursing. She has worked in the field of palliative care for pediatric and adult patients. She has been teaching as nursing faculty for over 10 years and 4 of those years have been working with Walden University as Clinical Instructor.
She has provided several course lectures to ABSN, APRN, and medical students at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She has co-authored several publications related to palliative care and the needs of patients with life-limiting illnesses. Dr. Thaxton’s overall interest and research has been focused on caring for patients with chronic pain and life-limiting illness which is driven by her passion to serve patients/families across the lifespan. Her desire to promote the implementation of culturally sensitive initiatives has helped to develop strategic models of care through education and curriculum development.
In 2014, Dr. Thaxton received an award for being one of the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina. In 2019, she received the D Magazine Excellence in Nursing Award and she was also designated as a Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing at the Annual Assembly meeting for AAHPM/HPNA in Orlando, Florida.
