Dr McNicholas started her nursing career in 1992 when she graduated from the University of Connecticut with honors. She then went on for an APRN CRNA and completed that in 1996. She really wanted to make a difference and decided in 2002 to go on for a PhD and has been teaching online ever since. She started at Walden in 2004 and helped develop several classes and taught one of the first classes.
She independently works as a private contractor as a CRNA and part time as a professor.
In 2018 she was author in a book that won the ANA book for the year for APRNs in population health. Currently she is authoring a second book with other nurses that will be a DNP instructors manual.
Her passions are preventive medicine, population health and helping other RNs to go on in their education.
She believes knowledge is power and is a person that keeps the lines of communication open.
