Brenda J. Kennedy began teaching at Walden University in May 2005 in the Teacher Leadership Doctoral Program. She also taught in the Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development program for one year. She currently mentors doctoral students completing their doctoral studies/dissertations in the Curriculum Instruction, and Assessment Program. Prior to entering higher education in 1995, Dr. Kennedy taught fourteen and a half years in K-12 public education in levels ranging from elementary through high school. She began her professional career in Metropolitan Chicago, Illinois and transplanted to North Carolina in 2003. Her research interests include culturally responsive and culturally sustaining pedagogy, the science of reading, and effective professional development for educators.
