Dr. Brandy Gilea is an Ohio-Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisory Endorsement and Nationally Certified Counselor. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Kent State University, a M.S.Ed. in Counseling and a B.A. in Psychology from Youngstown State University. Dr. Gilea is currently employed as a full-time faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.
Dr. Gilea has clinical, supervisory and teaching experience in the behavioral health profession, including the treatment of mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. She has provided direct service, supervision and management in a variety of clinical settings including community-based behavioral health treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, college counseling centers, mental health group homes, jails and homeless shelters. Dr. Gilea has directed numerous programs including crisis intervention and stabilization, community psychiatric support, pharmacological management, behavioral health counseling, and forensic services. Dr. Gilea has held several leadership positions, including the clinical director of a large non-profit behavioral health organization, department director and clinical supervisor. She has comprehensive experience working with psychosis, psychological trauma, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, suicidal and self-injurious behavior and substance abuse.
Dr. Gilea has extensive professional involvement and has authored many articles and book chapters. She has presented at international, national, regional, state and local conferences, symposiums and workshops. In recognition of leadership and contributions to the counseling profession, Dr. Gilea was awarded the 2010 Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Outstanding Practitioner Award and the 2010 Ohio Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (OACES) Outstanding Supervisor Award. Her active commitment to scholarship was recognized by faculty at Kent State University when she was awarded the 2007 Judith A. DeTrude Professional Recognition Award. Dr. Gilea has been recognized as a leader in her community and was selected by the Mahoning County Foundation as a recipient of the 25 Under 35 Award, a program that recognizes leaders from diverse professions in the community who are under the age of 35 years-old. She was selected among the 25 award-winners as one of three VIP recipients to honor her extraordinary professional leadership, service and impact within the community.
Dr. Gilea is an active member of national, state and local counseling organizations and committees, as well as local community foundations and programs. She has a professional investment in advocating for the needs of the profession and community.
