Specialized Professional Association Recognition

Programs are developed following the guidelines of specialized professional associations. This means that students get the benefit of a program that supports high-quality education programs that lay the foundation for school readiness, academic success, and adult achievement.

The Master of Arts in Teaching with a specialization in Early Childhood Education program incorporates standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC). The National Association for the Education of Young Children is the world’s largest organization working on the behalf of young children.

The EdS in Educational Leadership and Administration program’s curriculum is aligned with the standards of the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC), the Educational Leadership Constituents Council (ELCC), and the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA).

Walden licensure students work with mentors or host teachers, licensed practitioners who serve as role models, counselors, and teachers, providing guidance and opportunities for professional development, growth, and support. The relationship between the mentor and the candidate is the key to the candidate’s successful development as an effective leader.

Field Experience

Candidates for teacher licensure are given many opportunities to develop and refine their teaching skills through varied field experiences, both classroom based and virtual. This gives candidates a great opportunity to practice and become proficient in the use of new teaching skills when they are part of a faculty. Walden’s staff works with each student to locate a field experience that’s right for you.

Though field experience requirements vary by program, they provide you with the opportunity to complete a number of hands-on activities and assignments—including observing, interviewing, interacting with children, and creating and teaching lessons. Depending on your program, you may also complete a full-time demonstration teaching experience (also known as student teaching) in which you will assume all of the responsibilities for the classroom and implement what you’ve learned throughout your Walden program.
