Background

Dr. Dixon-Saxon, vice provost of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, is a licensed professional counselor in the state of North Carolina and a national certified counselor. Dr. Dixon-Saxon has served in higher education for 25 years, and she has trained students and professionals around issues of diversity for just as long. In recent years, after becoming a single and custodial parent herself, Dr. Dixon-Saxon has focused her research on the issues of African American single mothers, especially those who are in poverty and those who are trying to achieve and maintain middle-class status as single parents. She has provided significant consultation to media outlets, including the Canadian Women’s Health Journal, Essence magazine, The Lizz Brown Show, Single Minded Women.com, Portland Family Magazine, and UNC-TV.
