Dr. Aissen has been a counselor educator for 13 years, teaching at the college level and working as a mental health counselor. She has been a contributing faculty member at Walden for 4 years, primarily teaching on the topics of substance abuse counseling and psychopharmacology, and developing new CACREP-aligned addiction courses. She previously taught at the University of Florida, Santa Fe College, and the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. Dr. Aissen is in private practice in Gainesville, Florida, and has been a licensed mental health counselor for 10 years. Her clinical work is focused on addiction medicine, diagnosis and treatment, women's issues, and relationship communication skills. Dr. Aissen has worked clinically for 10 years in a multi-level psychiatric and substance abuse treatment center, and has taught independent living skills to teens in the foster care system.
