LGBTQ counseling issues—specifically, training counselors to provide affirmative therapeutic treatment
Dr. Whitman is a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois and a licensed professional counselor in Missouri. She has experience treating clients with a history of abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and career concerns. Her expertise is in treating lesbian, bisexual, and gay clients. Dr. Whitman served as the president of the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling in 2005–2006 and acted as its governing council representative from 2012-2015. She served the American Counseling Association as a member of its Ethics Committee (2003–2006) and was a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of LGBT Issues in Counseling and ADULTSPAN Journal. She has published and presented on LGBTQ counseling issues nationally and internationally.
