Dr. Vera has worked in the counseling field for more than 30 years. He currently leads two research teams: one on developing reflective counseling practitioners employed by the Regional Department of Education in Zulia State, Venezuela, and a second on social justice, inclusion, equality, and public policy issues in the field of counseling professional practice for the psychology department at the University of Zulia in Venezuela. Since 2010, he has led the counselor professional certification development, a joint project between the Venezuela Counseling Federation and NBCC International. Dr. Vera has been acknowledged as a counseling distinguished researcher by the Venezuela Science and Technology Department and has received several outstanding educator awards from the University of Zulia. He was chair of the psychology department and chair of the counseling graduate program at the University of Zulia. He was a member of the International Registry of Counselor Education Programs steering committee (a subsidiary program of CACREP) and served on the editorial board of The Professional Counselor. Dr. Vera has taught and given presentations on ethics, mental health counseling, leadership, consultation, and counseling supervision in several countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
