BackgroundDr. Alexander began practicing and teaching in the counseling field in 1997 and joined Walden in 2010 as an instructor for the MS in Mental Health Counseling program. She is a private counseling practitioner and director of undergraduate studies for the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences, Limerick. Previously, she held lecturing and research posts in the UK and in Ireland at Trinity College Dublin. She worked on several projects funded by the UK Department of Health, investigating new ways of working in acute mental health and increasing access to psychological therapies. Earlier in her career, she spent many years working in community mental health services and various inpatient mental health settings in the UK. She has published widely, mainly in mental health journals. She completed her degrees, apart from the PhD, funded by the Trustees of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, while working full time and caring for her family. Consequently, she appreciates the dedication of her students and the sacrifices they make to complete their studies at Walden.
