FAQ about Walden’s Online Programs

Is Walden an accredited online university?

Walden University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (www.hlcommission.org), an institutional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Accreditation is a mark of quality. Walden has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 1990. In July 2023, HLC reaffirmed the institutional accreditation of Walden for another 10-year period.

Being accredited by HLC validates that our online university lives its mission, operates with integrity, hires academically qualified faculty, and provides the resources and support necessary for our students to succeed.

Walden has also earned programmatic accreditations from the following organizations:

  • Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)
  • Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
  • Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
  • Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)
  • Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

By earning programmatic accreditation, a specific program, school, or college demonstrates that it has met the academic standards that help prepare students for advancement in a particular field.

Is Walden University a reputable university?

An HLC-accredited online university, Walden is highly regarded among students, graduates, and employers. Consider the following results of Walden’s 2022 Student, Alumni, and Employer Satisfaction Surveys:

  • More than eight out of 10 (85%) alumni survey respondents reported that the Walden curriculum was relevant to their work. Eight out of 10 (81%) said their Walden degree enhanced their professional competence.
Is Walden University considered a leader in online education?

Yes. Walden has been an innovator in remote learning for more than 50 years. Founded in 1970 to support working professionals through distance education, our university was at the forefront of online learning with the launch of its first online graduate program in 1995.

Today, Walden offers more than 100 online degree and certificate programs. Our offerings are purposefully designed to meet the needs of adult online learners, featuring:

  • Alternative ways to learn, including Tempo Learning®, our competency-based option that lets you progress through your program at a pace that works for you. Walden was among the first universities to bring new learning modalities to online learners, launching our MS in Early Childhood Studies degree program in the Tempo Learning® format in 2015.
  • Multiple online degree completion tracks in many programs to meet you where you are in your education and career.
  • Immersive learning experiences that include multimedia case studies, interactive VR simulations, and hands-on fieldwork.
