Dr. Hernandez has 15 years of experience teaching public administration and public policy. She has received several federally funded grants and foundation grants to develop culturally competent policies and programs across the nation. Dr. Hernandez is the former secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the recipient of the Council of State Government Innovation Award for her Elder Ready Communities: Communities for a Lifetime. She is also the recipient of numerous municipal proclamations and a humanitarian award. Dr. Hernandez has written published articles and developed training manuals and presentations on topics dealing with the elderly, Social Security, caregivers, and nonprofit organizations.
