Background

Dr. Powell is the associate dean of Walden’s School of Psychology. Her former academic administration positions include program/department chair, vice president of academic affairs, and campus president at other institutions. She has taught undergraduate and graduate psychology for 15 years and distance education courses for 11 years. Her clinical background includes experience in nonprofit management of social service programs serving high-need populations, work as a psychologist in prisons, grant-writing and program design/evaluation, and work with individuals and couples in private practice. As a 2010 co-recipient of a Faculty Research Initiative Grant from Walden, her study focuses on the impact of distance education in professional psychology on underserved mental health communities.
