Dr. Spangenburg began her career in the U.S. Navy, then transitioned to the U.S. Department of Defense in a federal service position. She has managed and supervised a supply and logistics department, handled program management and budgeting for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, served as an undersecretary of the Navy acquisition intern, and was a contracts administrator. She also has led two successful management consulting practices, owned a retail business, and served on the board of directors for a Virginia credit union. She continues to serve as a mentor and advisor to government organizations. For the past 14 years, Dr. Spangenburg has held various positions in higher education, both administrative and teaching. She has developed curricula, recruited and hired faculty members, developed business partnerships, recruited learners, and managed an undergraduate human resources and organizational behavior program as an academic department chair.
