Background

Dr. Gutierrez has served as lead investigator in several National Institutes of Health–funded studies aimed at building research capacity and reducing chronic disease health disparities, including the Jackson Heart Study, the Deep South Network for Cancer Control, and the Southern Community Cohort Study. Her scientific focus is on social and behavioral epidemiology of immigrant populations, including obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and prevention of risk factors.
