Information Technology Policies

Technology Requirements
 

To ensure their success, students should be proficient using email, the Internet, and common desktop productivity software.

 

General

General technology requirements for all Walden students, except those in the Master of Information Systems Management (M.I.S.M.) program, include the following:

  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X.
  • 512MB of RAM minimum (128MB for Windows 2000).
  • 10 GB hard drive.
  • CD/DVD drive connected to the computer.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Adobe Reader ver. 8 or higher.
  • Adobe Flash Player ver. 9 or higher.
  • Apple QuickTime ver. 7 or higher.
  • Windows Media Player ver. 7 or higher.
  • Antivirus software (e.g., McAfee or Norton) installed, running, and kept current by promptly installing the upgrades and patches made available by the software manufacturer.
  • Internet access.
  • Web browser (Internet Explorer ver. 6.0 or higher, or Firefox ver. 1.5 or higher).
  • Inkjet or laser printer.

Note: Doctoral students and students in the M.S. in Mental Health Counseling program are encouraged to use a laptop computer for their work in view of their required attendance at academic residencies.

 

Students in the M.I.S.M. program have the following technology requirements:

  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X.
  • 1 GB of RAM minimum.
  • 40 GB hard drive.
  • CD/DVD drive connected to the computer.
  • Microsoft Office or Star Office.
  • Adobe Reader ver. 8 or higher.
  • Adobe Flash Player ver. 9 or higher.
  • Apple QuickTime ver. 7 or higher.
  • Windows Media Player or iTunes, ver. 7 or higher.
  • Antivirus software (e.g., McAfee or Norton) installed, running, and kept current by promptly installing the upgrades and patches made available by the software manufacturer.
  • Internet access.
  • Web browser (Internet Explorer ver. 6.0 or higher, or Firefox ver. 2 or higher).
  • Inkjet or laser printer.

Students, throughout their program, can request technical assistance and support in the online classrooms from Walden’s Student Support Team.

 

eCampus Portal

Additional, different, or upgraded applications, features, or functionalities may be installed on the eCampus portal from time to time, and these technology requirements will be revised accordingly. Although the university will use reasonable efforts to provide notice of any such revisions on the welcome page of the eCampus portal, students are nonetheless responsible for maintaining familiarity with the terms of the catalog, including the Technology Requirements, as the same may be amended from time to time.
