Requesting ADA Accommodations

Students requesting accommodations under this policy must contact the university’s Office of Disability Services for information, including instructions for requesting services (disability@waldenu.edu). Students are responsible for notifying the university of any disability, before requesting academic adjustments, and are responsible for providing supporting professional documentation of the disability.

Students requesting accommodations must complete the Disability Accommodation Request and Release of Information for Disability Services forms found in the Office of Disability Services. Students are encouraged to apply for accommodations before they begin coursework; accommodations are not retroactive and cannot be applied to completed coursework.

Types of Services

The university considers students’ requests on an individual basis, within a reasonable time frame. A student’s preference of accommodation will be considered first, but all types of reasonable accommodation will be considered. At times, alternative methods of accommodation may be used, depending upon the resources the university has available.

Walden University is not campus-based. When facilities are used to provide instruction, such as with academic residencies or field experiences, inquiries are made to ensure facilities used are in compliance with the university policy on accessibility. Students attending residencies or field experiences must contact the Office of Disability Services within a reasonable time frame to ensure accommodations are arranged or negotiated in a timely manner.
