Federal Financial Aid FAQ for the Teacher Preparation Programs
The following frequently asked questions are about federal Title IV financial aid for the post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs without the M.A.T. option.
What is the status of financial aid for the post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs without the M.A.T. option?
The post-baccalaureate teacher preparation program is new for Walden University as of January 2008. Walden is currently seeking approval from the U.S. Department of Education to award Title IV financial aid for this program. While Walden University cannot guarantee a date when we will hear from the Department of Education, at this time we expect to hear from the department before the start of the program in January.
Since Walden University does not currently have approval to award Title IV financial aid for the post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs without the M.A.T. option, should I wait to fill out my paperwork?
Even though Walden is seeking approval from the Department of Education, individuals can still fill out the 2007–08 FAFSA for the program. Walden will collect and hold all paperwork that is received until such time as we hear back from the Department of Education.
What will I need to do to have my paperwork processed?
Walden University will begin the process of awarding federal Title IV aid once we receive approval from the Department of Education.
How will I know that Walden University has received approval?
You will receive a communication from the Office of Financial Aid. There will also be a more general announcement once the Department of Education has made its decision.
What will happen if the approval is not received by the January start date?
If Walden University does not receive approval by the January start date, we will research other funding options that may be available to you.
Why are students able to apply for financial aid for the post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs with the M.A.T. option?
These are master's programs, for which Walden University has existing approval from the U.S. Department of Education to offer financial aid. The post-baccalaureate teacher preparation programs without the M.A.T. are not considered master's programs, and therefore Walden must complete an approval process for a new program offering.
